My research

Teaching early music from the Middle Ages to the Romantic period is at the heart of my professional life as a university lecturer and author. In terms of content, my main areas of focus are the Renaissance and Baroque periods. My perspective is that of a music theorist, historian and composer: I am interested in the question of how music is constructed, how it functions and what conceptual ideas underpin it. This also includes considering how music was taught in the past.
