Which warm-up exercises help to strike a balance between the creative and logical hemispheres of the brain in primary school children?
Thank you very much for your question, and apologies for the delay in replying!
Both hemispheres of the brain generally work together when tackling tasks. Research does show that there is asymmetry at a functional level; for example, speech production and comprehension tend to take place in the left hemisphere, whilst spatial information is processed more extensively in the right hemisphere.
However, information is exchanged between the two hemispheres via a vast bundle of nerve fibres, the corpus callosum. This exchange takes place automatically and does not need to be stimulated separately. There is therefore no benefit to exercises designed to promote balance between the two hemispheres. For this reason, I would not recommend such exercises. However, short breaks for movement or mindfulness exercises to unwind in between are helpful for relaxation and for improving concentration afterwards.
