My research

My research focuses on everyday language use in the early modern city-state of Bern, and I examine criminal trials (including records of witch trials) for linguistic variation, multilingualism and individual language use. Prior to this, I conducted research into modern Bernese German and other sociolects, such as youth languages. For some time now, I have also been looking into the use of computer-assisted methods in sociolinguistics and am exploring how and where AI can be usefully applied in this field.
