Why?

  • Our workshop «What does Baselland know?» is about the knowledge that lives in the canton — mostly in people's heads rather than in books or online. From local historians to natural history societies to curators in regional museums: much of what makes Baselland what it is is only known by those who live, research and collect there.
  • This 'situated' knowledge is usually not googleable. That is precisely why it is valuable — for final theses, for the search for cultural identity or simply to better understand one's own surroundings. savoir public wants to make this knowledge visible and accessible.
  • The knowledge landscape of Baselland is still being built — and that is exactly why students here are not mere users, but co-designers. What should the knowledge map look like? Which local topics are particularly exciting? Which experts are still missing? Their answers will feed directly into the further development of the project.

Learning objectives

  • Students get to know the local knowledge ecosystem of their canton.
  • They understand what 'situated knowledge' means and why it is valuable in the digital age.
  • They actively help shape the knowledge landscape of Baselland: through proposals for topics, places and experts.
  • They formulate their own questions for local experts and receive a personal answer via savoir public.

Notes

  • This workshop is part of the participatory development phase of the «Knowledge Landscape of Baselland». Contributions from participating classes feed directly into the design of the platform and the knowledge map.
  • The project «Knowledge Landscape of Baselland» is supported by the Swisslos Fund of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft.
