Does ivermectin really not help against Covid? I’m not satisfied with the answer: ‘It’s a veterinary medicine’. Thanks to inside information, I know that hospitals are facing a shortage of medicines and are repeatedly having to resort to veterinary medicines. So does ivermectin have a positive effect on Covid?
Thank you very much for this question. I have been familiar with this medicine for almost 40 years. It is particularly effective against tropical worm infections. Larger studies also show a reduction in the transmission of malaria, as it acts on the Plasmodium parasites in the mosquito.
In recent years, various clinical trials have been conducted on ivermectin for Covid-19. The study by Eli Schwartz, whom I have known for more than 20 years, is by no means the first.
Unfortunately, the meta-analyses of all clinical trials on ivermectin for Covid-19 are very sobering. They show no reducing effect on transmission, disease progression or mortality. Only one study from Egypt demonstrated an effect. Whilst ivermectin may reduce viral replication in vitro (i.e. in laboratory cell culture experiments), this could not be replicated in clinical trials in terms of its impact on the course of the disease.
Based on all this data, ivermectin is not authorised for the prevention of Covid-19, nor is it recommended for treatment.
