My research
In my doctoral thesis, I am examining the question of how physical appearance (ranging from beauty to ugliness) was functionalised in 12th-century lay-aristocratic society. Among other things, I am interested in how beauty is portrayed in various source groups, such as courtly poetry, and what social and societal implications were associated with such an attribution – or the absence thereof.
