My research
My current research project examines the significance of Carl Spitteler’s work and influence, and of Jonas Fränkel’s editorial and literary-critical work, within the context of the debates on literature, academia and social policy from 1880 to 1930. The focus is on the interaction of both figures with the ‘Lebensreform’ movement around 1900, particularly with the youth movement, school reform and the Jewish Renaissance (Walter Benjamin, Gustav Wyneken, Ferdinand Avenarius, Eugen Diederichs, Martin Buber).
