My research

I am fascinated by the interplay between the visual arts and music in the early modern period, in all its various aspects: how were musicians portrayed, and how was sound evoked in paintings? What strategies were used to depict choreography on the two-dimensional surface of a sheet of paper? What role do the visual elements of an opera performance play for the performers and for the audience? How do the dramatic plot, music and stage design relate to one another?
