My research

I am a problem-solver. In my day-to-day work, I face the facts head-on, get a clear picture of the resources available, and then look for a sensible, pragmatic solution. That is precisely what my field of expertise is all about: people, settlements, transport routes and other infrastructure are threatened by natural hazards. How can we make the best possible use of our resources to protect ourselves? And in which situations is it better simply to accept a risk?
