I have taken part in space missions, particularly those involving comets. In Bern, we build instruments that are then sent into space on probes to study the chemical composition of cometary atmospheres. This allows us to draw conclusions about the history of the Solar System. ‘Where does the material come from that we ourselves are made of?’ is one of the key questions. This then naturally leads us further out into the universe to the formation of stars, galaxies and the universe itself.
