My research
I enjoy combining observations ranging from mountains to crystals, microanalysis, experimentation and dating to understand the intrusion and crystallisation of magma within the crust, which determine the evolution of volcanoes. My fields of study have included the Canary Islands, Patagonia, Scotland and even the ocean floor. Today, I chair several organisations that promote dialogue between the natural sciences and society. The beauty and complexity of nature are a passion of mine.
