My research
I’m interested in how we can ensure the effectiveness of a medicine or an intervention. This is more complicated than one might think, because people aren’t just clusters of cells; they have desires, fears, needs and expectations. Biology, as well as attitude, behaviour and contextual factors, all influence whether something has the desired (and, ideally, as few undesirable) effects as possible. My most important tool is the randomised controlled trial; my hero is Austin Bradford Hill.
