My research

I have conducted research into the cultural history, literature and philosophy of German-speaking Jews from 1800 to the present day, for example Else Lasker-Schüler and Kafka. I then analysed representations of Jewish identity in popular culture, which led me to recently write a book on Leonard Cohen: In it, I examine the cultural history of a number of songs, describe Cohen’s distinctive ‘voice’ and explore the role of the voice in contemporary culture.
