My research
In my doctoral thesis, I demonstrate, amongst other things, how heteronormativity and gender dualism in the 18th century were linked to a reinforcement of the human–animal boundary, how male violence was naturalised through comparisons with animals, and what different roles and emotions were attributed to the sexes in their interactions with animals. In my next project, I will be examining transgender identities and the history of clothing in the 17th and 16th centuries.
